| Overview and About Department:
The Department of Physics at IIT Patna was established and started its activity in August 2008 to train undergraduate engineering students. In July 2009, the department initiated Ph. D. program in various frontier fields of Physics. M. Tech program in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology has been running in the department from July 2012 till July 2019. The department offers a 2-year M. Sc. program in Physics from July 2016 and a 4-year B. Tech in Engineering Physics from July 2021. The department is committed to engaging in high-quality research and pursuing excellence in teaching. The department's faculty members are actively involved in research and development in challenging areas of theory and experiment. Currently, the main research emphasis of the department comprises Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Physics, Optics, Biophysics, Atomic & Molecular Physics, Cosmology, Astro particle physics and High-energy physics. |
| Courses:
The program objective is to nurture young engineers with a strong foundation in science and engineering to produce highly skilled engineers and scientists.
Minimum eligibility qualifications are B.Sc./B.S. degree with Physics for at least two years/four semesters and Mathematics for at least one year/two semesters. No restrictions for Engineering degrees. The program learning objective is to prepare and aid the students in acquiring a strong foundation in core and applied areas of physics.
The broad objectives of the Ph.D. programme are to contribute to expanding the frontiers of knowledge and to provide research training in fundamental and applied areas of Physics. For the regular institute fellowship, the candidate should have BE / B Tech/ BS / M Sc / equivalent degree with a valid GATE score above the prescribed cut-off level / NET qualification. |
